Sharon Guevara
Director, Allied Health Welcome Center
Sharon Guevara has been with the University of Texas Health Science Center (UTHSCSA) for 27 years. She holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology from University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA). She has been in the School of Allied Health Sciences for 13 years and facilitated the coordination and establishment of the Allied Health Welcome Center in 2004. In the positions she has held with the UTHSCSA, she has always worked with applicants and students in an advisory capacity and has provided assistance with program, career, and academic counseling. She enjoys the interaction with applicants and students and derives satisfaction in helping shape future careers.
Mary Gilson
Pre Admissions Counselor, Allied Health Welcome Center
Mary Gilson retired from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio in 2003, after serving in the capacity of Assistant to the Registrar for Allied Health Sciences for 15 years. The Allied Health Welcome Center was fortunate to acquire her expertise as a part time pre-admissions counselor after she retired. She brings with her a wealth of knowledge about all the programs in Allied Health Sciences. She has a great talent of making applicants and students feel at ease when they are faced with all the complexities of meeting program requirements, being competitive, and exploring career options.
Vanessa Torres
Administrative Secretary, Allied Health Welcome Center
Vanessa Torres is the newest member of the Allied Health Welcome Center team. She has been with the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio for almost 5 years and with the Allied Health Welcome Center since January 2007. Her expertise lies in her customer service skills which were honed during her years in the department of General Services. Not only does Vanessa provide valuable administrative support for the Welcome Center, but she also interacts with applicants and students to provide helpful information. Vanessa has an interest in business administration and is working on courses toward her degree at Northwest Vista College in San Antonio.
